As shown by President Biden’s recent trip to Saudi Arabia, U.S. values frequently conflict with U.S. strategic requirements.
Joining Host, Jim Falk to discuss the present situation in the Middle East are:
Steven Cook, Ph.D., a Senior Fellow with the Middle East and Africa Studies at The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), and a regular columnist in Foreign Policy magazine,
Intissar Fakir, a Senior Fellow and Director of the Middle East Institute’s North Africa and Sahel Program, and
Michael Robbins, the Director and Co-Principal Investigator of The Arab Barometer, a nonpartisan research network.
The discussion focuses on the ARAB States, and how they impact the U.S., the ongoing turmoil in Tunisia, which was once considered a beacon of democracy, and President Biden’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia.
We also discuss the Abraham Accords, negotiated by President Trump’s administration, which created new alliances between Israel and the five Arab states.
The question remains- given the turmoil in the Middle East, from food prices and shortages to the oil situation, among others, is there hope for progress toward democracy?
