Re-air: What Can We Learn from Dead Philosophers?Re-air: What Can We Learn from Dead Philosophers? (2709)

The record-breaking temperatures this last winter caused havoc with the Texas power grid. The grid could not deliver the power needed to cope with the temperatures and household needs.

As a result, more than 4.8 million homes were left without power, and heat. At least two hundred people died.

The state’s grid operator, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), is still dealing with “forced outages” this summer, and if another freeze comes this winter Texans might again be left in dire circumstances.

Joining hosts Dennis McCuistion and Jim Falk to talk about the issue and possible solutions are:

Adrian Shelley, Director of Public Citizen’s Texas office, which works on issues that include clean energy and environmental enforcement, and Pat Wood III, President of the Hunt Energy Network, an energy storage development company. Mr. Wood served as the Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. From 1995 to 2001, he chaired the Public Utility Commission of Texas.

The bottom line – Texas has a problem and finger pointing is not going to fix the issue.

P.S. A special thank you to the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation for their renewed support this year.
