Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker, US Ambassador to Afghanistan in 2011 -2012, joins co-host Jim Falk for a discussion on the present situation in Afghanistan.
His previous appointments included service as the U.S. Ambassador to Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Lebanon. He’s received many of the nation’s highest honors. When he stepped down as Ambassador in Kabul in 2012, Ambassador Crocker was named an Honorary Marine by the United States Marine Corps.
The recent events in Afghanistan have been shocking and the Ambassador shares his views in no uncertain terms.
Some of the questions asked and answered on this program include:
- Why did we go into Afghanistan in the first place?
- Did the mission change? (Iraq War)
- What have we accomplished with our being there?
- Given your familiarity with this region as well as the players involved- what are you most afraid of / concerned about?
- Explain how our 2,500 troops were augmented by our NATO partners?
- Is it accurate that we didn’t inform our NATO allies and Afghanistan Gov’t that we were abandoning the Bagram Air Base on July 5?
- Was ending it really necessary?
