China continues to cause consternation to the U.S. Our relations with China appear to be at long time low.

In his recent confirmation hearings for Director of the CIA, William Burns said, “The adversarial Chinese leadership poses our biggest political threat.”

However, while they may be the most formidable competition that the U.S. and some would say more foe than friend, they are also our 3 rd largest trading partner and still the 2 nd largest economy in the world.

Bringing us some new perspectives on this growing concern is David J. Firestein, the inaugural president and CEO of the George H. W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations (Bush China Foundation).

Mr. Firestein is the author or co-author of three books on China. A career U.S. diplomat, from 1992 to 2010, he is an expert in China, Russia, public diplomacy, and U.S. politics. In his Foreign Service career, he served at the U.S. embassies in Beijing (5 years). As a young student ,he studied at Peking University and speaks near native-level Chinese.

Mr. Firestein joined our Dennis McCuistion and Co- host, Jim Falk, earlier this year to talk about the many changes he has seen with China and its people. He says, “in the ’80s the average citizen did not think their destiny was theirs to control. Now far more believe their lives are theirs to shape.”

How will these changes impact future U.S. China relations? Join us for a new perspective on China.
