Joining Dennis McCuistion and Jim Falk on Sunday, March 28th, at 11:30 a.m. on KERA, Channel 13, are Davarian L. Baldwin, Ph.D., author of In the Shadow of the Ivory Tower: How Universities are Plundering Our Cities and Calvin Jamison, Ph.D., vice president for facilities & economic development at The University of Texas at Dallas, on a controversial topic – the economic and cultural impact universities have on the neighborhoods they are in.
Dr. Baldwin claims that universities have become big businesses — and our cities their company towns.
But if there is a cost to those who live in their shadow, aren’t there also positive benefits?
Dr. Jamison’s perspective – is absolutely yes, and he offers the University of Texas at Dallas as an example.
Join us to find out more about the pros and cons of universities in our communities.
