Taiwan in relation to China*

Relations between China and the U.S. are at an all-time low, in part because of the actions China has taken toward Beijing and the U.S.’ commitment to Taiwan.

Our guests:

Director General Peter Chen
(Taiwan – Houston),

Gordon G. Chang J.D.
Fox Commentator and author of The Coming Collapse of China and The Great U.S. China Tech War,

Ambassador J. Stapleton Roy
Founding Director Emeritus, Distinguished Scholar at the Wilson Center’s Kissinger Institute on China and the United States and

Cynthia A. Watson, PhD
Dean of Faculty and Academic Affairs, National War College, bring us up to date on Taiwan’s precarious situation

Taiwan, an island 100 plus miles off the coast of China, has for all practical purposes been independent of China since 1950, however China still regards it as a rebel nation it must subdue.

The incidents in Hong Kong have added fuel to the fire as many refugees have come to Taiwan from Hong Kong in recent months and been granted asylum.

As a result of China insisting that other countries cannot have official relations with both China and Taiwan, Taiwan has become more diplomatically isolated while remaining one of China’s major economic players, most especially in the tech market.

And the U.S. remains its most important protector.

Join hosts Dennis McCuistion and Jim Falk, for a close look at the history and current situation in Taiwan today.
