What IS Modern Monetary Theory? What IS Modern Monetary Theory? (2728)

The U S. withdrawal from Afghanistan this year triggered many questions and controversies. Debate continues about this never-ending war, as it still does regarding Iraq and the U. S.’ involvement.

In Part Two of 9/11, Iraq and Afghanistan, Robert L. Draper, author of Dead Certain: The Presidency of George W. Bush, and To Start a War: How the Bush Administration took America into Iraq, and Jeffrey A. Engel, the Founding Director of the Center for Presidential History at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas join hosts Dennis McCuistion and Jim Falk, for a conversation on the two wars, Iraq and Afghanistan, both described as forever wars and “wars of choice.”

According to Brown University’s Cost of War Project in the two decades since the 9/11 attacks the US has spent in excess of $6 trillion and this does not include veteran benefits that will bring the total upwards to $9 trillion.

The program continues the conversation on the blunders our government created, and the back-office strategy that led to our entering the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts and how 9/11 contributed to those decisions.

We discuss the costs, errors and what could have been done to expedite the best decisions.
