Just as prohibition did not stop alcohol consumption, criminalizing marijuana usage has not stopped its use. Joining host Dennis McCuistion to discuss the pros and cons of marijuana legalization are:
- Katy Carol Whitton, APR, public relations specialist,
- David Van der Vieran, Licensed Professional Counselor, Founder of Sea Change Counseling in Carrolton Texas, Services and
- Mason Tvert, Spokesperson/ Media Relations Director, Marijuana Policy Project.
To date (and changing daily) recreational marijuana is now legal in 11 states; medical marijuana is legal in 33. However the Federal government still considers it as a schedule one drug and crossing state lines while possessing marijuana is a criminal offense.
Opinions differ on legalization, with some saying “lets legalize it”, and some believing it is dangerous drug. Most agree marijuana should be controlled, taxed, and safely out of the hands of criminals and drug pushers.
Our guests civilly disagree on the cons of marijuana as well as its potential benefits and ask does the use cause short term memory loss? Is it addictive? Or does it have potential beneficial side effects to our health? And would legalizing marijuana decriminalize its use and result in benefits overall.
