In 2016 there were 38,654 firearm deaths, attributable primarily to suicides or domestic violence. That same year 116,000 people who were “involved” in or were a “victim” of a gun shooting survived.
Join host Dennis McCuistion and our well informed guests to talk about the issues of gun violence:
- Larry Pratt – Executive Director Gun Owners of America,
- Judy Cook, MD – psychiatrist, author: To Die or Not to Die, and
- Vicka Chaplin, MA, MPH – Director of Health Programs, Coalition to Stop Gun Violence
What’s behind the increasing numbers of mass and individual shootings? Our panelists believe mass shootings are not necessarily caused by people with mental illness and are a signal of something much deeper and troubling in our society today.
We don’t hear as much about individual shootings or the number of non-fatal “accidents” caused by firearms, yet access to guns by individuals who may be at risk, in crisis, or accidents in the home need more attention.
Our present gun laws, concealed carry laws, increased cases of depression, paranoia, social discontent, antagonism, and irrational individuals are all part of a discussion that focuses on solutions in next week’s discussion.
And once again we are honored to be underwritten by The Hatton W. Sumner’s Foundation, Inc. The McCuistion Program, a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization does not receive any KERA pledge dollars, PBS funds or government grants. The funding which has kept us on the air for 28 years comes from grantors and viewers just like you. So thank you for your continued support.
